Buttermilk Biscuits Recipe

If you're looking for a quick and easy roll-like option, drop biscuits are fantastic. They have a slightly crumbly and tender texture.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup (1 stick) cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
  • ¾ cup cold buttermilk

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Lightly grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Incorporate Butter: Cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients using a pastry blender, your fingertips, or a fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with some pea-sized pieces of butter remaining. The cold butter is key for flaky biscuits.
  4. Add Buttermilk: Pour in the cold buttermilk and stir just until the dry ingredients are moistened. Do not overmix; the batter will be lumpy.
  5. Drop onto Baking Sheet: Drop spoonfuls of the batter (about ¼ cup each) onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between them.
  6. Bake: Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown. Serve warm.
